Ok so I have been mulling this over and over in my mind and I’m trying to come to grips with what I feel and believe. I was raised as a Democrat coming from working class families in Detroit Michigan, the motor city. Growing up in this atmosphere Democrats were always for the little man, the working class the people who had nothing handed to them but had to earn everything. The Republicans on the other hand were akin to evil boogeyman, cold, pampered, racist, who look out for the rich and despise the poor. As I have grown older I have come to see that all labels placed on people are not true. The main issues that have make me look at myself and think “Maybe I am a Republican” are these:

1. Abortion – I am Pro Life and am tired of people taking the easy way out and killing a human being because of there selfish desires. I know there are extraordinary circumstances and that there are some legitimate reasons to abort, such as the mom’s life being at risk and a fetus that will not make it to full term, but on the whole I am against abortion.

2. Taxes – For some reason all I hear from Democratic politicians is request to raise taxes and create more social programs. Now don’t get me wrong I think there are very meaningful social programs out there but do you know how many programs cross over each other and provide the same benefit and we add yet more and more that add an ever increasing tax burden. Me personally I don’t work hard to give my paycheck to taxes I would prefer to retain my pay because I don’t see what FICA, or Social Security is going to do for me in the future.

3. Liberalism – I’m tired of being labeled a liberal because in allot of ways I’m very conservative in my values. It has become now the belief that Democrats are incapable of having a value system that we are just a bunch of liberals that anything goes, because supposedly we are the party of acceptance so we accept anyone cause “WE DON’T WANT TO HURT THERE FEELINGS”. Well who in there right mine jus accepts anyone, do we accept murderers “Cause they paid there time” Do we accept paroled child molesters, do we accept wife beaters, liars and thieves. I mean who don’t we accept. Me personally no I don’t accept these people and if I am insensitive or not open minded enough then so be it.

4. Religion – It seems now you cannot be a democrat and really be a Christian, first of all you have to be understanding and open so you have to understand and make room for others religions, like Satanism, Wiccan, Atheist, or what ever it maybe. So now Republicans are the only ones not scared to stand up for what they believe in, and proclaim there faith. I dont know about you but I would rather proclaim my faith and offend then deny God.

These are just the ones right off the top of my head I know I have more but I will add on to the post as I think about them, but I guess I am more Republican then I thought I was is that such a bad thing.

  1. I think it’s difficult to point out a small set of issues and be able to comfortably declare one party over the other without looking at the history of each of them.

When you examine the Democratic Party’s voting record, it’s no secret that they are the party for the Working Class American, Women, Seniors, African-Americans and Hispanics. They are also strongly in favor of protecting civil rights, protecting the environment, gun control, education, public health and yes, reproductive freedom.

The Republican Party’s voting record shows that they are the party of big businesses, conservative in nature, stands for cutting taxes and government programs and strongly against abortions. All other issues indicate to me that they are against all issues supported by democratic party. (and in fairness so are the democrats)

I am a democrat and I can say that I don’t fully support all issues from the democratic party; however I am not willing to jump on the republican band wagon, especially with GW still in office. In fact, I can’t say that I agree 100% on all issues with ANY party.

I believe that America needs an overhaul of the construction of the political parties in general. Perhaps that would be a great place to start.
